Everyone knows that dogs are a man’s best friend. In my opinion, the Maltese is the best dog. The Maltese is named for the island of Malta. The Maltese is considered to originate there over 2,500 years ago.
The Maltese was a very special dog back in the day, just like many feel it is now. They were owned as pets by aristocrats. They are also known as an ancient dog breed and many were found all over the Mediterranean for thousands of years. One theory is that when the Phoenicians founded Malta in 1,000 BCE, they brought these dogs with them. Since the Phoenicians traveled around the world, the dogs’ population spread around the Mediterranean.
When you think of a Maltese, do you think of a white dog with really long hair? Well, that’s not the only kind. Besides the long-haired Maltese, there are also short haired, and a lot of mixed Malteses. Most of them weigh somewhere between 6-9 pounds.
Now that you know everything there is to know about the history of the Maltese, the only question left is, “Is the Maltese the best dog?”
